Resumo
A delimitação de regiões morfológicas é uma atividade de pesquisa fundamental, particularmente para aqueles morfologistas urbanos com formação geográfica. As delimitações refletem a origem, o desenvolvimento e a modificação das formas urbanas que estão sendo consideradas e os diferentes métodos de delimitação empregados. Às vezes, faltam lógicas claras para as decisões sobre onde precisamente traçar as linhas de limites. Este artigo explora regiões e limites, baseando-se em evidências a partir de uma série de estudos que usam medições detalhadas derivadas do mapeamento digital para auxiliar na discussão das diferenças nas áreas e entre elas. Ele também analisa as aplicações de tais processos de desenho de limites nas questões de planejamento contemporâneas, incluindo “áreas de caráter urbano” e preservação, usando o trabalho realizado por autoridades de planejamento local nas Midlands inglesas.
